After returning from the Bahamas, I began my journey south to San Diego. I was invited to come and stay with Sara Shoemaker Lind, the 1997 North American Rolex Scholar, and her family in San Francisco. Sara is an award-winning photographer and has worked on projects for many distinguished clients including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, National Geographic, PADI, GE, and the World Wildlife Fund. I came to her with a ton of images from the Caribbean hoping that she would lend her keen eye for detail and teach me more about editing. She went above and beyond and we went on a little field trip around San Francisco, seeing the sights and instructing me on how to produce quality images. It happened to coincide with the America’s Cup races which provided plenty of action and opportunity to shoot interesting subjects.
Oh, and she also had me throw on my full scuba gear so she could get some shots for a concept she had been thinking about!
This is one of the shots I had taken in Bonaire that I was particularly proud of and Sara took the time to describe to me the pros and cons within the image and helped me edit it to get the final product.
I want to express my gratitude to Sara as well as her husband Kevin, adorable recently-born daughter Celeste, and of course their lovable dachshund Remy for putting me up in their beautiful home. Thank you so much for an incredible experience!
