Does anyone else find the Red Bull commercials incredibly compelling? I’m sure some of you in the audience are unfamiliar with what I am talking about so here’s a link to one. And no, Red Bull is not a sponsor for this scholarship, although they would probably be a useful one. This is free advertising for them. You’re welcome Red Bull. Alright, done? Now to my point. I’m not sure what it is but after watching one, I feel the need to go launch myself off a cliffside in a squirrel suit. But honestly, I think they’re right. I would feel confident to say that the majority of the population has an inner inclination toward exploration, toward challenging oneself. Maybe not anymore but can you remember back to your youth, back when everything was wild and crossing the street was like receiving a ticket to the moon?
I have been given an incredible gift… that ticket to the moon. In the metaphorical sense of course (any astronauts want to host a scholar?). This gift has made it possible to go and explore, not only the world but myself, to find my line and go beyond it. To search the depths of my soul and discover where my heart runs deep. To find my true passions and to pursue them with youthful ferocity. I am deeply grateful to OWUSS, Rolex, the Explorers Club and countless other sponsors for giving me this opportunity. I won’t let you down.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain
