The Bozanic Team arrived on the site around 9:30am, and promptly dove right in, or at least would have if I hadn’t decided to try diving with Joe Hoyt’s dry gloves. Swapping the zip seals on my drysuit took awhile, and after doing a surface test on both gloves and determining that the right one leaked, I decided to go diving with only one dry glove (uh… the left one, in case there was any confusion there). So the Bozanic team promptly dove right in at 10:30am, upon which time my left dry glove promptly started leaking. Oh well.
The task that Filip and I had this morning was to fill in the gaps on both the triangle feature and the Ferry that we determined after last night’s mapping. We also wanted to take some reference pictures of the site, to help jog our memories on the general organization of our two features. So our first dive was dedicated to taking very specific measurements on the triangle, shooting some photos, then taking the measurements on the Ferry that would allow us to sketch a more detailed map of the Ferry later tonight.
After taking a surface interval to dry out my left undergarment sleeve and swapping out the seals, Filip and I dove in for a second dive. This time, we had only one measurement left on the triangle feature, and spent the majority of the dive measuring more detailed features of the Ferry. We measured the boards across the deck of the Ferry (no easy task, since the boards are very old and very irregular), the intersections of the exposed support bars (which are almost entirely encrusted with mussels), and the jagged edges of the damaged Ferry deck.
