I was lucky enough to spend a couple of days across the bay at the Kasitsna Bay Laboratory (a UAF/NOAA facility) with the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ scientific diving class, led by the venerable Brenda Konar. The Lab is an ideal research location — I was impressed with what’s being done there, and intrigued by the research possibilities (which might be endless).
The class itself was made up of about 20 students, all brave individuals (see below). Many thanks to Brenda, her teaching assistants Nathan Stewart and Melissa Deiman, and Mike & Connie Gaegle, the fine Kasitsna Bay Lab caretakers. The lab itself is an incredible resource for researchers — contact Kris Holdereid (NOAA) or David Christie (UAF) if you’d like to know more.
